Remember that wonderful ever green song from the 1970's by Lynn Anderson titles "I never promised you a rose garden" well this is also true with reference to our faith as a Christian.
Many of us have the assumption that by becoming a Christian it's some how going to remove all our troubles and that we would be free from all pains and hurts in life.
Sadly this is what many preachers have promised to pre-believer's in order to get them saved, they promised them that all their problem will go away and that they will have perpetual peace of mind all the days of their life as a Christians.
Did our Lord promise us that? Let's see what the Bible says about this:
John 16:33 - These things I have spoken to you, that in me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
James 1:12 - Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.
Matthew 5:10-11 - Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
1 Peter 5:10 - And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself restore you, secure you, strengthen you, and establish you.
1 Peter 1:6-7 - In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in various trials, so that the proven character of your faith—more precious than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.…
We see by these few scriptures that the notion that we will be free of troubles as a Christian is totally unbiblical and a false narrative and it runs contrary to the true faith and walk of a believer in the Lord.
It is through these troubles, trials and tribulations that our faith is tested and strengthen and we are refined and made ready as a true bride of Christ to do greater works in preparation for his glorious coming.
Nevertheless, we simply cannot omit the fact that peace is also part of our inheritance and is also promised to us as a believer and follower of the Lord Jesus, this is what the scriptures say:
2 Thessalonians 3:16 - Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.
Colossians 3:15 - Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
John 14:27 - Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
Philippians 4:7 - And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
So now we see a balance here with these few scriptures on the peace that we have been promised in the midst of our trial, problem, tribulations in this world that we live in as a believer in Christ, it is not without His abounding grace to overcome and become a mature son/daughter in Christ.
Let this following scripture be an assurance to us:
2 Corinthians 4:17 - For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
So do not magnify our problem but magnify Christ in our problems so our faith is not diminished but increased in the midst of our problems.
Let this following scripture be an assurance to us
Luke 21:28 - When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near."
I do hope this message blesses you, please guard your heart and lean on the Lord in all things and He will give you peace and make you an overcome.
John 6:39 - And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day.
Be blessed
