We are all looking for a winning formula in a marriage and we desperately look for it in every place that's worldly, the world is incapable of providing us with an answer as it is clearly noticeable when we see how it has failed us in the way marriage is portrayed in movies and in daily life.
We as Christians cannot but go to the most reliable and proven source available to us and that's found in the infallible word of God the Holy Bible.
We see many examples and instructions in the Bible of what constitutes a true God formula for a successful and biblical marriage that works if both parties are true to themselves and submissive to the Word of God and in submission to one another in love.
There is no "I" or "mine" in a true biblical marriage formula, there is only "we" and "ours".
We are told that wives are to honour and respect their husbands. And in that the woman is a weaker vessel (body) and that the man (stronger body) is to honour her.
1 Peter 3:1 - In the same way, you wives must accept the authority of your husbands. Then, even if some refuse to obey the Good News, your godly lives will speak to them without any words. They will be won over
1 Peter 3:7 - In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God’s gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered.
We are also told that husbands should love their wives just as Christ loved the Church.
Ephesians 5:25 - For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her
In the bible we read that husbands and wives are to become one in flesh by leaving their families and cleaving to one another.
Genesis 2:24 - This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.
We see this in the marriage of the Lamb where we the bride are given in marriage to the bride groom.
Isaiah 54:5 - For your Creator will be your husband.
A true Christian marriage is ordained by God for a life long Union between one man as husband and one woman as wife.
We see the Lord praying to the father like a bridegroom yearning for the bride (church) to be one as He was with His father.
John 17:21 - I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.
Mark 10:9: “Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate."
We are to love one another in spite of our differences and shortcomings as it is a true fulfillment of the law of God.
Romans 13:8 -“Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law."
When we fellowship with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, He will bind our marriage with the cord of love and give us the grace to overcome all obstacles in our marriage as a threefold cord of the triune attribute of the God head that's unbreakable.
Without the love of God in our hearts we are simply not able to undertake the union of marriage.
1 Corinthians 13:2 - “If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing."
When we as a Church come together and worship the Lord we lift up our hands and sing praises aloud and give Him all of our self, all of our heart, emotions and our love.
This is a model of how we ought to love one another in our marriage, we ought to express all our devotion from the depths of our hearts with all our emotions and love towards one another without holding anything back.
Romans 12:10 - "Be devoted to one another in love. Honour one another above yourselves." This is how we love God and so must we do in our marriages towards our husbands and wives.
The Bible has without doubt and with all clarity given us a master plan on what a true marriage should and does look like if we are truly looking with the eyes of faith and without being prejudice we will surely attain it by His grace.
I was told that the Bible is a love letter to believers from God. We see the love of God for his creation in the way He had redeemed us from our fall from grace and how He had sacrificed His only begotten Son Jesus Christ for us so that we could be grafted into the family of God and receive sonship and be co-heir to His kingdom and to share in the glory of Christ our saviour.
In my opinion this is the Bible verse that cements the union of marriage:
Ephesians 4:2-3 - Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.
Come let us join our hands and hearts in love for one another as He loved us with an eternal, unconditional and everlasting love for his bride the Church (you and I).
The Lord bless and keep you in perfect peace and in His Love.
